We love making features easier to use for our users — In our latest release, we’ve shipped a whole new mobile-friendly player experience that allows you (as a player) to join tournaments while on-the-go and play in tournaments stress-free with our new Tournament Guide system. Throughout the whole lifecycle of a tournament, players will be guided to their next step from checking in, to finding their opponents, to reporting scores — as a result, we’ve greatly reduced the amount of stress for both players and organizers.
Going deeper, we understand that you could be heading home after a long day of classes and you want to get your friends together and play in an upcoming tournament; however, you don’t have a computer near you — We’re very proud and excited to announce that you can now easily join tournaments from your favourite tournament organizers with a few taps on your mobile device whether its a tablet or a phone!
In relation to this announcement, we’ve been listening to a lot of feedback from communities across different games and what we’ve found is the player experience needed help in two ways:
end-to-end, playing in a tournament can be confusing. We can relate this to what it’s like traveling to another country for the first time. We wanted to help players by providing real-time guidance from registering for tournaments, checking in, finding their opponents, and reporting their scores.
joining tournaments while on the go needed to be extremely simple and fast. Incidentally, players would often get links from their favourite organizers or friends (via Facebook, Twitter, Skype) and as part of this initial flow, we wanted to ensure that the joining process was a painless as possible, especially if it included custom fields. From the desktop experience, we’ve found that the friction in joining tournaments was decreased after our revamp with Persistent Teams; however, now that we’re seeing growth in our mobile traffic, we wanted to extend that same level of ease to mobile players, specifically Call of Duty, Halo, and Rocket League (console gamers).
With the heroic efforts of Adam Seckel, Sophia Lee, Jared Daley, Michael Qin, Battlefy now has a frictionless tournament joining process on mobile.
