Last year we made great strides in tournament organization for League of Legends with the help of our partners at Riot Games by bringing tournament codes to every organizer and player on Battlefy. Organizers no longer had to worry about players’ full friends lists or the wrong rules being set for the match.
Today, we’re excited that Riot is launching a public tournament API for use by the growing competitive community. We’ve been working closely with the Developer Relations team to make sure that it’s robust enough to handle the thousands of League of Legends organizers out there growing the grassroots tournament scene.
The new tournament codes will be considerably shorter addressing complaints that the old codes could not be sent to your friends using League of Legends’ chat client. Additionally, we’re finally able to lift the 24 hour limit on tournament codes! Regardless of how long it has been since a code was generated, we will receive full information on the match back and automatically report your score.
Speaking of score reporting, we’ve also improved the speed at which we’ll receive scores from the game. We’ve switched Battlefy from the equivalent of your phone pulling for your email every 5 minutes to a push system like you expect in the 21st century. This means faster bracket updates and less time between rounds!
The stats we’re getting back are more in-depth too! For the first time ever, we have ban information for games so you know why nobody picked Gangplank. We’ve also stepped up what we do with all these stats: each and every one of the League of Legends tournaments you create with Battlefy will have its very own infographic page that will showcase the top players, champions, and teams of the event:
This is just the beginning. We have so much more planned for League of Legends tournaments and look forward to sharing them with you in the coming months!
