Making It Easier To Collaborate With Tournament Drafts

Battlefy January 25th 2015

Since we’ve optimized our tournament creation workflow from 6 steps to 2 steps, we’ve been looking at how we can make it easier for moderators and organizers to collaborate on tournament details. Generally, organizers will create a tournament, update the rules/prizing, create a bracket, and then share it out to their communities. However, with the recently rolled out feature of adding moderators, information can be in flux as there are so many people editing the tournament details much like a wiki. This is fantastic as the quality of information and the authenticity of the tournament gets raised as time goes by. Furthermore, there many things that moderators and organizers can collaborate on, such as,

  • Prizing
  • Rules
  • IRC channels / communication mediums
  • Social media links
  • Payment options
  • Score reporting

With all these pieces of information coming together in real-time, it is very easy to come across the tournament as a player, sign up, and find yourself signed up for a tournament with outdated rules/prizing. This is why we’ve landed the ability to set tournaments to draft — to make running tournaments less stressful and more collaborative.

As a draft, the tournament won’t be public or show up in the organizer’s list of tournaments until it is set to published. This will ensure that when the organizer and their team of moderators have all the right information checked-off they can publicly announce it to their communities without any information confusion.
