We’re excited to announce our partnership with Monumental Sports and Entertainment to launch the Caps Gaming Showcase, presented by Leidos. This is the first competitive esports tournament series run by Caps Gaming and will feature an 8-week, online EA SPORTS NHL 20 regular season and bracket quarter finals , culminating to a live, in-person semi-finals and finals event in Washington DC. With a $15,000 USD prize pool up for grabs, the Caps Gaming Showcase is now one of the premier competitive circuits in the NHL esports scene.
The competition will also showcase longtime EA NHL competitor John “JohnWayne” Casagranda as the official series streamer — officially the first esports professional to be signed by the National Hockey League. Not only does the Cap Gaming Showcase feature an awesome prize pool and competitive structure, this is the first time that the 6v6 EASHL mode in EA SPORTS NHL will be used in a competitive esports setting.
We’re longtime fans of the Washington Capitals and EA SPORTS NHL, so we’re excited to see how the Battlefy platform can elevate the Caps Gaming Showcase experience for players and fans alike. Partnerships between esports and traditional sports are the next big step, and teams like the Washington Capitals are leading the charge when it comes to building great competitive experiences.
We can’t wait to see how this season of NHL 20 unfolds — to stay in the action follow Caps Gaming on Twitter, and Instagram.
